Mackenzie Introduces Bill Package to Support Working Families

U.S. Congressman Ryan Mackenzie, representing the Greater Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania’s 7th District, introduced four new bills Tuesday aimed at reducing costs for parents and creating new economic opportunities for working families. He is also co-sponsoring bipartisan legislation with Congresswoman Sharice Davids (D-KS), which was introduced at the same time.
Congressman Mackenzie’s four bills accomplish the following:
- Expanding Paid Family and Medical Leave: Permanently doubles the employer family and medical leave tax credit to encourage businesses to offer paid family leave.
- Doubling Child and Dependent Tax Credits: Doubles the Child and Dependent Care tax credit and the employer-sponsored Childcare Tax Credit to offset the cost of childcare, easing the financial burden for working parents.
- More than Doubling the Child Tax Credit: Raises the Child Tax credit to $5,000 (currently $2,000) to help alleviate the high costs facing parents.
- Supporting Adoption and IVF: Expands the Adoption Tax Credit to $25,000 (currently $16,810) and creates a matching credit for IVF expenses to help families grow.
“As a father raising a young family, I’m proud to work on behalf of other parents in the Greater Lehigh Valley.,” said Congressman Mackenzie. “The price increases in recent years have been challenging for all Americans, but working families have been hit especially hard. Parents of young children are facing record-high prices for childcare while often lacking key benefits like paid parental leave. My package will deliver real relief for parents and better support families as they grow.”
Congresswoman Sharice Davids’ bill, the Affordable Child Care Act, doubles the Child and Dependent Care Credit, the Employer-Provided Childcare Credit, and the amount that can be contributed to a dependent care flexible savings account.
“I’m committed to reducing prices for every American, and I’m supporting policies that do just that,” said Congressman Mackenzie. “That starts with ensuring working families, who are at the heart of our communities, are getting the relief they need to thrive. I’ll continue to lead on this issue and work with members on both sides of the aisle to make it happen.”
