Washington, D.C. — Congressman Ryan Mackenzie (PA-07), representing the Lehigh Valley and the Poconos, met with leaders from the Puerto Rican and Dominican communities in Washington this week. On Tuesday, the Congressman met with a delegation from Puerto Rico, including Sen. Thomas Rivera Schatz, President of the Puerto Rican Senate. On Wednesday, Congressman Mackenzie spoke at the 8th annual Dominicans on the Hill event.
The Lehigh Valley is home to a large Latino population — constituting 22% of Lehigh and Northampton County residents — of which Puerto Ricans and Dominicans make up the majority. These meetings follow Congressman Mackenzie’s visit to the Dominican Republic last year as part of a bipartisan congressional delegation, which included meetings with President Luis Abinader and other Dominican officials.
“As the Lehigh Valley’s Latino population continues to grow, I appreciate the opportunity to foster relationships with leaders representing the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, both at home and abroad,” said Congressman Mackenzie. “Investing in these relationships allows us to continue strengthening ties between our regions — creating new economic and cultural opportunities for our communities. I’ll keep working to ensure that the Lehigh Valley’s Latino community gets the representation and support that it deserves.”
Throughout his time in office, Congressman Mackenzie has worked to ensure that the Lehigh Valley’s Latino community receives equal access to high-quality representation — staffing his office with a Latino community liaison, offering services and communications in Spanish, and maintaining an office within walking distance of the region’s largest Latino community.
