Congressman Ryan Mackenzie Attends White House Signing of the TAKE IT DOWN Act

May 19, 2025
Washington, DC — Today, Congressman Ryan Mackenzie, representing the Greater Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania’s 7th Congressional District, joined President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump at the White House for the official signing of the TAKE IT DOWN Act. This bipartisan, landmark legislation will protect young people from explicit, non-consensual, AI-generated deepfake images.

The legislation establishes new federal protections for victims of online exploitation and gives individuals the ability to request swift removal of harmful deepfake content. It also empowers law enforcement to hold offenders and platforms accountable. Congressman Mackenzie has been a leader on this issue, having authored legislation in the Pennsylvania State House that outlawed this material on the state level.

“As a Pennsylvania State Representative, I led efforts to remove harmful deepfake images and protect individuals—especially young people—from AI-generated exploitation,” said Congressman Mackenzie. “Now, I’m proud to continue that work in Congress. The TAKE IT DOWN Act is a bipartisan victory for protecting children, families, and all Americans from this disturbing form of abuse.”

The bill passed both chambers of Congress with broad support and now becomes law.
