In the News: Medal Presented to Vet's Family
May 19, 2025

A World War II Army veteran who served at Normandy and in the European theater was honored posthumously on Saturday with the presentation of a second Bronze Star Medal. Staff Sergeant William "Wash" Bybel of Coaldale, who died July 23, 2013, at the age of 94, was awarded the medal "for heroic achievement" during his actions on August 4, 1944. He served with the U.S. Army's 22nd Infantry.

Over the weekend, he stopped by Cetronia Ambulance Corps to drop off coffee and donuts for local EMS workers before joining Bethlehem Police for a ride-along.

He began the day by presenting the Bronze Star with oak leaf cluster and “V” device to the family of the late Mr. William Bybel, a World War II veteran from Carbon County.

In the News: Congressman Ryan Mackenzie visits firefighters near site of Bear Mountain fire, which has burned around 560 acres

JIM THORPE, Pa. - A congressman representing the Lehigh Valley and Carbon County visited firefighters and local emergency officials near the site of the Bear Mountain fire that has burned more than 500 acres.

Congressman Ryan Mackenzie, who represents the 7th Congressional District, met with representatives from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources at the Carbon County Emergency Management Agency field site for an update on efforts to contain the fire.

WASHINGTON, D.C.  — Congressman Ryan Mackenzie, representing the Greater Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania’s 7th Congressional District, has introduced legislation that requires all federal contractors to use the E-Verify system. The Day 1, Dollar 1 E-Verify Act expands existing requirements for federal contractors to participate in the E-Verify, removing exceptions relating to the cost and duration of contracts.

The Republican from the Lehigh Valley took the stage in Washington, D.C., to answer questions from a studio audience. And members didn't hold back on hot-button topics in the national spotlight.

Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY), Rep. Jahana Hayes (D-CT) and Rep. Derek Tran (D-CA) joined Mackenzie in taking questions.
